ᝰ THE STORY
A Balinese boy carefully places offerings in front of his home, standing in the picturesque alleyways of Penglipuran village during Galungan—one of Bali’s most sacred celebrations. Lasting ten days, Galungan is a time of devotion, where the Balinese honor their ancestors and the gods with prayers, offerings, dances, and feasts. It symbolizes the victory of Dharma (good) over Adharma (evil) and serves as a moment for families and entire villages to come together in spiritual unity.
In Penglipuran, the spirit of Galungan is unmistakable. Villagers gather to pray, prepare offerings, and hold performances in tribute to their ancestors, maintaining the delicate balance between the living and the deceased. The village is particularly renowned for its striking arrangement of penjor—tall, gracefully arched bamboo poles adorned with woven coconut leaves, palm fronds, fruits, and sacred offerings. Lining the entranceways of every home, these towering structures serve as symbols of devotion, prosperity, and divine protection.
Magic Offerings captures the essence of this tradition—where faith, heritage, and artistry merge in a single act of reverence. As the boy carries out his sacred duty beneath the towering penjor, he embodies the continuity of Balinese beliefs, ensuring that the cycle of gratitude and blessings remains unbroken for generations to come.
